Security

Security is a core part of how Articuly is built. This page describes the measures we take to protect your data, how data moves, and how you can report a security issue.

1. Local-first design

Articuly is designed to process text and documents on your device. The content you provide for reading or listening is handled locally and is not uploaded to us as part of the reading experience. Because Articuly does not operate its own servers for your content, the surface area for your data being exposed is dramatically reduced.

2. On-device processing

Wherever possible, processing happens directly on your device:

• Text to speech. Supported voices and speech models run locally on your device.
• Document recognition. Optical character recognition is performed on your device; images you scan are not uploaded to a cloud service.

Optional features that require network access, such as connecting Google Drive to import a file you select, are only used when you actively choose to use them.

3. Protecting data at rest

App data is stored in the app’s private sandbox on your device, which other apps cannot read. Your device’s built-in encryption (where enabled) protects this data at rest.

Articuly does not back up your content to cloud services. Your text, settings, and preferences remain on your device, and deleting the App removes them.

4. Protecting data in transit

All network communication made by the App is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Plain, unencrypted HTTP traffic is not permitted. This helps protect any limited information that is sent when you use an optional networked feature.

5. Third-party services and SDKs

The App uses services provided by Google, including Google Play, Google AdMob, Google Analytics, and (optionally) Google Drive. These services run under their own security practices and privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. We do not control the security of these third-party services.

6. Data deletion

Because your content is stored on your device, you control it. You can delete individual content at any time within the App, and uninstalling the App removes its data from your device. There is no server database of your content for us to retain or delete on your behalf.

7. Responsible use

• Keep your device operating system and the App updated.
• Use your device’s lock screen and encryption features.
• Only install Articuly from trusted sources such as Google Play.
• Review the permissions the App requests and understand why they are needed.

8. Reporting a vulnerability

If you believe you have found a security issue in Articuly, please report it responsibly to support.articulyapp@gmail.com. Include steps to reproduce the issue and avoid sharing personal data in your report.
